A Stroll Through Tuscany
Sat. June 21st was a special evening at Papa Joe's in Rochester for wonderful tasting of Italian wines led by sommelier Jon Patrus. The appetizers were foods one would be served in an Italian vineyard. Yumm! It was a memorable and fun evening.
| Gems, Jewels and Aged Wines
On Sat. July 19th we met at Prlanta Fine Jewelry in Troy for a truly unusual evening. The owner supplied the wines from his cellar and we had wonderful appetizers as we received a very generous discount on our purchases of fine jewelry. What a fun time! And, believe it or not, we had more men attend this event than any we'd had so far! We are planning on more shopping nights like these. Check back!
| Pinot Noirs of Oregon
Sat. May 17, 2008
The Gatehouse Grille showed us a good time and an interesting new tasting of Oregon Pinot Noirs. Mary our wine rep for the evening talked about the differences between each.
There were lots of new people at this one, too.
At some of our events you can order wine by the case. But at this one you could walk home with just one bottle of your favoite which several people did which was a nice touch.
For anyone reading these comments who has not yet attended one of our tastings.......PLEASE NOTE: NO TICKETS ARE EVER SOLD AT THE DOOR OF OUR EVENTS! It breaks our heart to have to turn away anyone who walks in without a ticket, but we must. Our exact food and beverage orders must be in and paid for a week ahead of time. If we let in people at the door, there wouldn't be enough for those who had purchased a ticket, they would be upset and rightly so.
So our message is....PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS EARLY SO YOU WON'T BE LEFT OUT ON ALL THE FUN!
| Spanish Treasure—Wines of Spain
Friday May 9, 2008. What a treat to have an event in the spectacular La Salla Banquet room next door to Papa Joe's Gourmet Market in Rochester! Sommelier Jon Patrus delighted us with his information about each of the many Spanish wines we tasted, and the accompanying appetizers were wonderful.
We even had lively Spanish music and spontaneous dancing broke out! It's so much fun to attend our events because there are always new people to meet, and each one is completely different.
| Tasting: "None of the Usual Suspects"
April 19, 2008
Our first event of the New Year was a fun experience upstairs at Grape Expectations Wine Bar in Plymouth. And as usual, the most expensive wine was not the favorite of the evening. You CAN drink good wine not found in a grocery store at a decent price!
| “Starry, Starry Night” 4th of July Bash!
Indianwood Golf and Country Club was the perfect venue for a perfect event. What made it so good is that we had the chance to meander around several rooms and then out onto a private section of their balcony reserved just for us.
Fifteen members and guests had a fun time eating the grilled BBQ feast, discussing the wines, laughing, getting to know each other better and then walking out onto the balcony at dark for the topping off of our evening with fireworks. Very nice!
A major decision was made recently as to where we will and won't hold future events. It has been decided that restaurants are not the best places to meet because a dozen or more people seated at one long table does not make for mingling and getting to know each other better. We are now booking at nicer places of business....a jewelry store, a greenhouse nursery, an antique shop, etc. where meandering is encouraged but where we can still sit and enjoy private conversation if we wish. Ahhh! Sounds much more romantic, doesn't it? Stay tuned!
