Frequently Asked Questions:
Who can attend After the Wine events?
After the Wine events are limited to legally single adults 45 and over. <top>
What types of events can members expect?
After the Wine events will be more upscale affairs that will include things such as food and wine pairings, appetizer and wine pairings, dessert and wine pairings, picnics with wines to match the foods, wine tastings of all kinds from blind tastings with bottles in paper bags to varietal tastings to tastings from specific countries. Warm summer evenings on the Infinity Yacht cruising the Detroit river is on our want list, and trips to wine country will be in our future, too. These will be wonderful places to meet age appropriate singles who also love wine and want to learn more about the subject in a variety of fun settings. <top>
What days or nights of the week will most events take place?
After conducting a survey, the number one choice of evenings to hold events was Saturday night, with Friday second and Thursday third. During warmer weather we may include Saturday and Sunday afternoons, too. We will try to schedule most events on the weekends as requested since that’s what most of us of this age remember as date night! <top>
Will After the Wine events include the many weekly public tastings?
No. Our events will be private affairs held mostly on weekends. Restaurants schedule public tastings during the week to fill in slow times and they are attended mostly by couples not singles. However, wouldn’t it be wonderful to form a small group of single friends from those you’ve met in After the Wine to attend the public tastings with, too? <top>
What is the cost of membership?
The cost of a Charter Membership is being offered for a limited time only at $65 for 6 months or $100 for a year. The latter choices comes to just $8.33 per month to have your own personal social director offering you a varied menu of many activities to choose from each month with other age specific singles attending who want to meet YOU. The cost of joining will never be less than this amount and will most likely increase. Lock yourself in now to this guaranteed lowest rate for the longest possible time and be listed as a Charter Member in our directory. <top>
Does the cost of Membership include tickets to any of the events?
No. All event tickets are extra. You may purchase as many or as few as you wish. <top>
Will non-members be able to attend the events?
Yes. Everyone over 45 is welcome to attend up to two of our events as a non-member at a non-member ticket premium before making the decision whether or not to join our group. Before a third ticket can be purchased, however, membership will have to be completed and approved. <top>
Will event tickets be limited to a certain number from each gender?
Yes. We try hard to have as many men as women at each event. A “sold out” notice appears once ticket maximums for each gender have been met. We advise everyone to purchase tickets as early as possible to prevent being left out. <top>
Will tickets be sold at the door?
No tickets will ever be sold at the door. In fact, ticket sales for each event will end approximately one week before it is to take place in order for us to turn in food and drink counts and prepare for the event. This is another reason to purchase tickets early.
How many events can I attend if I join?
Membership means that you can purchase tickets to all of the events you wish as long as there are tickets still available for sale in your gender for that event. <top>
Must you be 45 years of age in order to join?
After the Wine is exclusively for those 45 and over and there are no exceptions to this rule. Those as young as 38 have asked us to let them join. However, where do you draw the line? If you bend the rules for one, you must bend them for everyone. That results in chaos. Our members can be assured that they will be socializing with other singles of similar age. <top>
How did After the Wine decide upon the age of 45 as the minimum age allowed for membership?
We did an in-depth search of singles groups in the area and found most of their activities were geared toward the 20-something to 30-something crowds with only an occasional event offered to “Baby Boomers”. After reading the fine print we also found that the suggested cut off age for both singles groups and dating services was generally 45. We found that offensive. We knew of many singles over 45 who were vibrant and looking for something where they weren’t made to feel out of place socializing with those much younger than themselves. We decided that we would fill this almost ignored niche and wrap it around a subject many in this age group happen to enjoy…….Wine! And by the huge numbers of people who have declared an interest in After the Wine, it seems……We have a winner! <top>
How will you monitor that all members are at least 45 years of age?
Once an application has been emailed to us, a clear copy of the applicant’s valid driver’s license or state I.D. that includes his/her date of birth must either be scanned and emailed or copied and faxed or sent through the U.S. mail before the application will be processed. All dates of birth and ages will be kept confidential and will never be listed or shared with the membership. <top>
How will you monitor that all members are legally single?
While considering whether we should demand proof as to the marital status of our members, we decided against it. The only way we can do that is to conduct a background check which members would then be required to pay for thus raising the cost of membership. Instead, we decided to make the following recommendation to all our members: If a member meets someone through our group whom he/she decides to pursue a relationship with (and, of course, we hope they do), we strongly suggest that they themselves conduct a background check on each other before doing so. We will be happy to suggest where this can be done reasonably as well as thoroughly. If there were any false statements made on the application in any area and we are given a copy of a current background check as proof, membership will be immediately terminated with no refund given. <top>
What happens if a member marries?
If a member marries during his or her term of membership he/she will no longer be able to partake in our activities nor will any refund be given. However, if the member is marrying someone he/she met through our group and we are sent
a formal announcement of the wedding
, we will send a special gift. <top>
